Convention Make & Takes

I still haven't completed all the projects from convention, but I only have 2 left...actually there was a card I really didn't like, so I used the supplies for something else. All of the following projects use stamp sets from the new catalog, so that alone makes them a little bit exciting! :) Brief descriptions below each project... Inspired By Nature stamp set

A Sketch for FRIDAY! ;)

Mornin' It's been a while since I posted a Friday sketch here, but I hope you know I do one every week for Splitcoast.

This one includes a few measurements, but I can also share the background paper sizes. The smallest one is 6x6 layered over an 8x8 piece. All but one of the photos are 3x4 just in different arrangements. That doesn't mean you have to stick with those sizes...but I've found that can sometimes be helpful!

I actually have pictures pulled for this layout, so look for a finished version coming soon!

Convention...the LAST Day

The final day of convention was fantastic for so many different reasons. The first one was simply because we got to sleep in an extra 30 minutes or so...and believe me, we needed it!!! The day started with Demonstrator Theater. Several demonstrators were introduced on stage and they each did a unique demonstration for us, a few that had a real WOW factor; I was taking notes!

Next we had lunch, the last two business classes, and then back to the main stage for the entertainment. Shelli showed us some adorable commercials made by fellow demos and announced the winners, and then they set up the stage for a game show. It was pretty cute. They called it Stamp-tionary. There were two teams each with a large dry erase board, and the game was played just like pictionary.


In between rounds they called out more wrist band colors and the prize patrol handed out prizes. They also showed a few more commercials made by the SU! creative team. The last was a "Convention Barbie" commercial. That one really made us all laugh so hard, we didn't hear it all. So Shelli rolled it again..."UPS Ken sold separately" LOL!!!

Suddenly we heard a doorbell and a real UPS man came on stage with Shelli. He said he was confused about who to deliver the box he was carrying to, and then said it was for all of us ~ WOOHOOO!!!!
The crowd cheered and confetti came pouring down as the prize patrol ran around in UPS t-shirts. They passed out approximately 6,000 "Say It With Scallops" stamp sets. The best part, is that this is the new Ronald McDonald set, and UPS bought them for us...The Ronald McDonald House will receive about $12,000 from this purchase since $2 from every set sold is donated by Stampin' Up! We spent our last evening together touring the Copper Canyon, and had a nice dinner on the way back. Chinese buffet, YUM! I've been back in Texas since Monday afternoon, and have just barely settled back into my normal routine. I'm so glad I had this opportunity and I'm hopeful to attend again next year, but it's good to be home!

Convention Day 2 & 3

Yesterday started with a general session where Shelli Gardner (Stampin' Up! CEO) announced what to expect with the Decor Elements line. There will be several new things and MORE COLORS!!!

When we grabbed our lunches my sis noticed the line to meet Shelli wasn't very long (yet) so we jumped in. She is such a genuinely sweet and down to earth person. I am really proud to be a part of all of this.

It was also the first day we got to do make and takes. The only downside was lugging all three stamp sets with us since we didn't know what we'd be doing first. The projects were all cute, and we were scrambling to finish what we could before we had to pack up and zoom down the hall for our two motivational classes. We also had to hustle back to the hotel for a quick bite. It's crazy how much rushing around we've been doing.

It was Award Night, so we got ourselves dressed up and headed back for the festivities. The ceremony took about 2 hours and we were wiped, but after all the awards Shelli introduced the most fun and unusual entertainment! A band called Tonic Sol Fa. They were so funny and really awesome too!!! It was a fantastic day...actually the first "real" day.

Today we again had a general session first thing in the AM. My upline Debbie won a pack of Designer Series Paper, and package of rub ons, ribbon and a new In Color stamp pad!!! There was also a new product announcement...

Stampin' Up! is partnering with Sizzix to bring us the Big Shot. We will have some exclusive dies and embossing folders. Check out this brochure. They will become available on Sept 1, 2008. It was so exciting and I can't wait to pre-order mine!!!

We had the final make & takes after lunch again, and then our classes. I really laughed when I saw these...

I tried so hard to take a "self portrait" of the three of us, between the classes. Barbara tried too, fortunately, sensing our frustration at the outtakes, another demo came to our rescue! :)

I would say the highlight of this day (other than Debbie's good fortune) was our tour of the Stampin' Up! home office. It was incredible!!!



The warehouse is AMAZING. We were all three amazed by all the boxes traveling on the conveyor belts. It was really cool, and the facility is beautiful!

Convention Day 1

Yesterday was check in and after navigating our way around we picked up the CUTEST bag that was STUFFED with stamp sets, convention info, and the NEW catalog!!! WOOOHOOO!!!!
We didn't even peek at the new catalog...shocking huh!? We shopped at the memento mall (it's the convention gift shop) where I got a few things I can give away at workshops, and I got this darling camera case that matches the Designer Series Paper!

I witnessed the wild and crazy world of SWAPS! ha ha ha I didn't do any myself, but Barbara and Debbie brought a few to see how it went, and got plenty of ADORABLE card fronts from other demonstrators. I think next time I attend a convention (hopefully next year *wink*) if I do any, I'll make some 3D items. That seems to be more my style.

There are a BAZILLION display boards with awesome cards and other projects demonstrators have sent in this past year and I photographed them ALL, as did plenty of other ladies. It was often difficult to squeeze in and get a look let alone snap a photo!

I also noticed a few with ideas using the stamps we got in our bags, as well as a board showing what make & take projects we would be completing on day 2 and 3. It's all so exciting. I can hardly believe I'm really here!


When we got back to our room, we FINALLY poured ourselves over the catalog and went through the whole thing page by page as a group. Fun, but too quick. I really need to go over it again, and this time I'll take my time and start a wish list! :)

We scrambled to get our stamp sets assembled for the next day's session and finally collapsed in bed around midnight (that's 1:00 AM Texas time, whoops!) but a girls gotta do, what a girls gotta do, right!?

We Made It!!!

Well we arrived in Utah around 2:30 yesterday, and it's been too crazy to post just yet. On our way to awards night, but I'll have more pics to share soon...

I'm Packed!

Well I'm all packed and ready to go! Bright and early tomorrow at 6:00 AM I'm headed to Utah with my upline and my downline! I'm sure the ride will be fun since I'll have such great company, but the destination is what it's all about! I am so excited I can barely contain myself!!!
We're going to the 20th annual Stampin' Up! convention! WOOHOO!!!! We'll start the trip with a bag full of goodies and be doing make and takes, attending classes and getting to meet other demos from all over. It's going to be so awesome!!! I'll have my laptop, so I'll be checking in here and there to share! "Talk" to you soon!!!

Could It Be Any Easier?

This is the photo cube for my Ladies Night workshop tomorrow. We'll also be learning the faux silk technique, but this project is the highlight of the evening. I saw something plastic once that you simply slide pictures in and it was pretty cheesy, but I owe it thanks because it was my inspiration! This idea has been swirling around in my head for over a year, and once I decided to do it, I've been really excited about it!!!

I just bought a 4x4x8 foot piece of lumber at Home Depot and with hubby's help we cut it down into cubes. They really measure 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 and I've completed my first one with sepia tone photographs and a simple stamped card stock piece on top. I used a large swirl image and overlayed the center "medallion" image which is heat embossed. Then I sanded all the edges to really make sure the photos won't peel up and I love the antiqued look the block took on. It also has a card stock bottom to cover the wood and make it table friendly. The bottom has a little stamping as well; "summer 2008" and stamped by Sally of course!

Challenges for the 4th

Crop Capers

I've been trying for nearly a YEAR to actually attend a crop with a group I joined! It's only 2 bucks if you come, and it's in a private home not too far from me. I finally went Friday night, and even with all the chit chat I finished a page and worked on two others, that each need "just one more thing!" LOL!!! Oh well, progress is progress.

I followed one of my sketches (see it HERE) for this particular page, and I've been dying to scrap these a long, long time! We were in Cancun and the waiter was a hoot, Gabe got him to pose with the margarita as he was serving it, and the picture came out great...this was even before we had a digital camera, so no retakes on these pics! ;)

I've been SCRAPPIN' :)

I'm not someone who normally scraps pages with just ONE picture, but I had a special request for a one photo layout a couple of weeks back, and why not!? I must say I do have a few lonely misc pictures that must be scrapped this way.

When I organized my pictures the other day I found a fun one of G & Syd playing Xbox! This was PERFECT for the sketch, and I just had to scrap it! They love to play "Dead or Alive" which is a martial arts fighting game...it's kinda funny to see them sitting on the couch, and kicking each others butt on the TV - LOL!!!

This is my girl when she was still a brownie, her first year selling cookies actually. I feel kinda like I cheated though. I didn't stamp ANYTHING! :O But I did use the super YUMMY Designer Series Paper only available through the rest of this month - it's called Afternoon Tea. I also used these WAY cute dimensional stickers from K & Company. They are all about scouting, and how could I resist!? I've actually been hoarding them since cookie season began this year, and still have plenty of them left for some more current photos.
My one and only Cuttlebug alpha makes up the first part of the title, maybe once I get caught up on my June goal I will treat myself to another one! ;)

I hope you are inspired. I think I'm on a little roll and I'm really looking forward to another Virtual ScrapBooking Night (VSBN). I'm hosting a challenge myself on Saturday for the preview. It's like a warm up, the "big weekend" will begin on the 28th. You should pop in and check out the action. It's always a lot of fun!!!

Summer Fun!

Hey there!!!
I have been blessed with a boss that respects me and values the work I do. I don't have a REAL important job, but at this small agency, what I do is vital to the daily operation. Therefore I am very lucky to be working part time for the Summer! My "new" office hours are 8:45 - 12:30 which allows me to be the one who feeds my girls lunch and we have LOTS of fun activities planned for all these afternoons we will share together! *BIG cheesy GRIN* hee hee

One thing we did last week to prepare was list things on paper that we want to do. I gave the girls the freedom to write down whatever they want, and they only wrote 6 the first day. ha ha They filled up a sheet in no time after that and have told me their favorites.

Yesterday we made a little time after our trip to the library to decorate a little jar to hold these slips of paper. My original thought was to let them take turns drawing slips out and we will mark the calendar for a few days, and leave a few days "open." Some activities will require planning, so I'm thinking that will be the best way, but I'm sure we can can choose from the jar and have a "surprise" activity once in a while! ;)

ANAL-ytical Organization

Yes, it's true! I have a dark side, I'm inflicted with the analytical-perfectionist disease! I'm sooooooo obsessive-compulsive about organizing things. Which is pretty funny, if you could see the HUGE mess in my master bedroom, you'd be really confused by this. I think the issue is that only I can see the final result (in my head). You know, the big picture. So until I am READY to make it happen, it ain't gonna happen!

After a statement like that you might be surprised to hear I can scrap out of order. Well that's progress for me! I was stuck in a rut once, needing to stay in date order and NOT getting anything done except the baby books (since you HAVE to do them as the baby grows), and I guess I snapped out of it! Trying to stay chronological is silly!!! Why not scrap what inspires you now, and use up some older pics along the way for good measure?

Yesterday I was planning to to do just that. I have some cute NEW pictures I'm dying to scrap, and PLENTY of older ones lying about as well, but I was so disgusted with the tiny amount of usable workspace left on my counter, that I couldn't function. I ended up pulling things out of the cabinets beneath thinking I'd reorganize and get the stuff on top put away - HA! After it was emptied out I decided (for some unknown reason) that this would be the day I get ALL our pictures in order, and that's where I'd keep them! Never mind the poor neglected layout in progress.



Our pictures are already in photo boxes, and in date order...for the most part. But somehow the boxes have spread themselves to different areas of my master bedroom. Which makes late night scrappin' a challenge in itself. Imagine me looking for "that photo from 2003" and Gabe (Mr. wake up if the cat sneezes) sawing logs in the bed, not pretty! Makes it impossible to even go in there if he's sleeping. So I rescued the 2 boxes in the closet, 2 from the bottom shelf inside the TV armoire, and one in the corner next to the changing table/dresser. Let me tell ya, if we had a fire I'd probably go down with the ship, because I'd be all over the place trying to round them up along with our completed albums...which are in ANOTHER room! *yikes*

Just like most of us these days, I use a digital camera pretty exclusively. So you'd think I'd just have old pics and photo CDs. Well, not so much. I would say "oh, those pics are just too cute," and I'd copy them to a flash drive and get prints made with good intentions of scrapping them right away. Also, to save money, I try to order prints in batches of 50. So I've been collecting them in a drawer at my workstation (yes ANOTHER location) and they're crowding my embellishments! Fortunately I've labeled the envelopes for most of these with true picture dates, and I had to shift things around to include them in the photo boxes. But that's where I keep the CDs, so it's all good!



Now that the hard part is done and all my pictures are sorted. I'm on to phase 2. I plan to go through my albums and make notes of what is obviously missing. For example, my oldest has a March birthday, so if I open up the 2002 album and see Spring portraits and Summer vacation pics I know I need to pull photos to scrap her birthday for that year. I will also go through the archive CD to see if there is something out of the ordinary that I should include. Then I'm going to make a list of all the "missing" layouts for our existing albums and I'm challenging myself to finish at least ONE album this year. That way I can still scrap what I want and I won't be forced to stay chronological.

Well here's some more analytical craziness. I made a spreadsheet, which I'm sharing with you. >>CLICK HERE for a copy. I want to spread the organizational LOVE! hee hee Use it as a reference sheet to keep with your pictures. Just label it whichever year and type in the contents of your photographs. If you have prints like me, keep it in your photo storage with the appropriate year. If your pics are exclusively on CD, this would be a GREAT tool to keep with the disk. It will help you find that certain picture without viewing several disks or even going through a whole year wondering "when was that!?" You will have to view your disks to fill out the spreadsheet, but after you do, you'll be all organized!

Chocolate Makes EVERYTHING Better!

On Friday I posted my latest sketch on Splitcoast. I post a new one every week and you can always visit my blog and find them in the sidebar on the right.

I was inspired to scrap it with these fun pictures of my oldest frosting cupcakes. I had hoped to have it finished and post them together on SCS, but I only just got the layout taped down!

Gloria has always been an enthusiastic helper in the kitchen, so finding these pictures was a real treat! This was the night before her 5th birthday party, and she was so cute with frosting around her mouth acting so serious about getting them done!

I've been trying to use things I've been hoarding, and this chocolate paper was perfect for this layout. I also got creative with my punches again. and added the handmade cupcake embellishment. I really like doing punch art, this one was really simple. I just ran a scrap through the paper crimper and layered it with an oval I punched out. It's mounted on a few dimensionals to make it pop. Too fun!

LADIES NIGHT!

Starting TODAY I'm hosting a monthly technique class! I decided it was time to have something regular again. I have a new group on Meetup.com and the member list is growing. There is something to be said for having a set routine, and I look forward my monthly fix of craftiness. It's at 7:oo PM and I AM READY!

Each class I will focus on a specific technique. Tonight is shaving cream; so I did the background of this Artist Trading Card with shaving cream and ink refills. I used three colors. Close to Cocoa/Groovy Guava/Pixie Pink. Then I did a little stamping with A to Z Accents on pink card stock, did a little punching and layered them together. Isn't it fun?

I might just whip up a few more tomorrow. Sydney (my 6 year-old) is dying to make her ATC with shaving cream too, but she is planning a different color scheme.



Then for the class I made this Father's Day Card (with my dad in mind) using just a couple of stamps from the "In the Stars" stamp set. And I love, love love using chipboard!!!

Sketch O'clock

Well if you remember, my laptop has been having some issues. So we bought an external hard drive, and I copied ALMOST everything over then my wonderful man Gabe re-installed OSX and the Adobe Creative Suite. Everything was working great for about a week, and then *POOF* it won't boot up. I am so sad, but we are going to have it repaired.
Soooooo, I just posted another sketch that I literally whipped up in about 10 minutes using Microsoft Word. It is actually pretty easy to do them in Word if you are going for a simple layout. Just print and scan if you need to convert it to a .jpg file. That's why it's a little crooked. *oops*

A Cut Above

I'm posting to show off the wonderously wonderful ~ One Sheet Wonder

I'm having this little workshop tomorrow at 2:00 and I am really excited about the project...how can you go wrong with the Berry Bliss DSP and these YUMMY colors!?

If you are not familiar with the One Sheet Wonder, let me explain. You take a 12x12 sheet of patterned paper and cut off a 3 1/2" strip. You will be left with a sheet that is 12 x 8.5" this is important because the remaining sheet can then be inserted in your printer and you can print cut lines right on it. Otherwise you would have to cut in 4 sections and then cut down from there using specific measurements to achieve the card layouts I've designed. This is not difficult, but using the printer makes things WAY easier!



The pieces are paired up with card stock, stamps, inks, ribbon and such to create something FANTABULOUS you can keep for yourself or give away. It is a little time consuming to make 10 unique cards with the WAY cute tote to match, but it's is so worth every second!!!
